The motto at Rio Grande Inn in La Jara is that quality in life for it's residents is important. The staff strive to make that a reality every day.
Rio Grande Inn is a beautiful long-term care facility located at 39 Calle Miller, near the Conejos County Hospital in La Jara. It provides a comfortable, friendly and encouraging environment for its residents. The facility offers short-term rehab programs as well as long-term care; it provides compassionate nursing, revitalizing therapy, energetic activities and a delicious open-dining service.
The staff at Rio Grande Inn appreciate the tough choices faced when deciding to move family members into long-term care facilities. "We try to help people see that it's not a matter of abandonment - it's allowing us to add our support to help the family", according to Linda Carter, Social Worker that teaches staff their valuable role in customer service.
The facility offers the best in medical care. They are required to have a licensed nurse on duty at all times. Only licensed nurses are able to administer medications.
Skilled nursing facilities often have their attending physicians visit patients in-house. Regulations guiding nursing homes set high standards for frequency of physician visits. Rio Grande Inn provides an examination room to allow physicians to meet privately with their patients. If a resident needs to be seen by a specialist or their physician does not visit in-house, transportation in the facility wheelchair lift van or bus is arranged. Residents are escorted to appointments by staff. Families are encouraged to be involved in these appointments.
Besides the medical care, residents are provided with opportunities to participate in daily activities ranging from bingo games at the Inn to field trips to museums and libraries. The residents are taken on shopping trips!
Once a month, administrative staff members meet with residents and their families to hear and answer any concerns that may arise. "We know how much trust you show us by letting us take care of your family members, " Social Services Director, Jessica Juarez often says. "We want to be deserving of that trust."
The residents are also able to meet with the administrative staff at any time to air complaints or concerns they may have. The residents are treated with dignity and respect.
Besides caring for its long-term care residents, Rio Grande Inn offers rehabilitative services for patients recovering from injuries, surgeries or other temporary health concerns. It gives people that extra little boost they often need before returning to home and independence.
